Engage Marine has added a new BYD Shark to its Sydney fleet, marking another practical step forward in the company’s sustainability strategy.
Operating in one of Australia’s most visible and environmentally sensitive working harbours, Engage Marine continues to invest in solutions that reduce emissions while maintaining operational performance.
The BYD Shark will support daily shore-based activities across the Sydney operation, including port coordination, crew transfers, site visits and client meetings. Because the majority of driving is short-range and harbour-based, the vehicle operates predominantly in electric mode and is charged directly at Engage Marine’s tug base.
This allows the business to materially reduce fuel consumption and tailpipe emissions without compromising range, payload or reliability, critical factors in a demanding port environment.

The introduction of the BYD Shark aligns directly with Engage Marine’s broader environmental strategy.
On the water, the company operates industry-leading DAMEN tugs fitted with advanced Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems. This technology reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by up to 80–82% and supports IMO Tier III compliance, particularly important in high and low load tug operations.
The addition of a hybrid-electric utility vehicle reflects the same philosophy on land: reducing emissions wherever practical and achievable.
