Engage Marine marked International Women’s Day this year with a special day on the water in Townsville, bringing together women from across the port community for a unique behind-the-scenes experience of towage operations.
A group of ten women joined the tugs for the day, representing a mix of port employees, Engage Marine personnel, family members and other operators working within the port. Participants also included representatives from Riverside Marine and SeaLink, highlighting the collaborative nature of the Townsville maritime community.
The day coincided with the arrival of the cruise vessel MSC Magnifica. As the ship entered port, the group had the opportunity to observe towage operations up close before later stepping aboard for a guided tour of the vessel.
Adding to the significance of the day, the ship was brought safely into port by a female pilot, showcasing the growing presence of women across a wide range of roles within the maritime industry.
The event provided a great opportunity to celebrate International Women’s Day while recognising the contribution of women working across ports, marine services and the wider maritime sector.
